TMS Referrals
Refer a Patient for TMS Evaluation
Brick Psychiatric Services provides TMS evaluation and treatment for patients who may benefit from a noninvasive treatment option when symptoms have not responded adequately to standard treatment.
We welcome referrals from psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, primary care clinicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
When to Consider a TMS Referral
A TMS evaluation may be appropriate for patients who:
Continue to experience significant symptoms despite treatment
Have had inadequate response to one or more medication trials
Have difficulty tolerating psychiatric medications
Are interested in exploring a noninvasive treatment option
Have previously responded to TMS and may require another course of treatment
Final treatment eligibility is determined after clinical evaluation and review of relevant medical and psychiatric history.
What to Include With the Referral
Providing the following information when available can help us evaluate the patient and determine insurance requirements:
Current diagnosis
Current psychiatric medications
Previous psychiatric medication trials and response
Duration of medication trials, when known
Prior psychotherapy or other treatments
Previous TMS treatment, if applicable
Relevant psychiatric records
Pertinent medical or neurological history
Our team will request additional information if required by the patient's insurance plan.
What Happens After Referral?
1. We contact the patient.
Our team completes registration and obtains necessary insurance and clinical information.
2. We review coverage requirements.
Insurance requirements for TMS vary. Our team will determine what documentation may be required for authorization.
3. The patient receives a TMS evaluation.
A psychiatric provider evaluates the patient's history, treatment response, potential contraindications, and overall appropriateness for TMS.
4. We pursue authorization when applicable
If TMS is recommended and authorization is required, our team works through the insurance approval process.
5. Treatment begins if approved and clinically appropriate.
Collaborative Treatment
Patients referred specifically for TMS may continue receiving their routine psychiatric care from their established provider.
With appropriate patient authorization, Brick Psychiatric Services can communicate treatment information and relevant updates to the referring clinician.
